PROJECT OVERVIEW

Recycling Warehouse

Virginia Steel Buildings

With a background in recycling and years of experience in the industry, it was not surprising that Joe Benedetto eventually decided to start his own recycling company.

In February of 2004, Benedetto put his plan in motion, founding the recycling company Third Capital, Inc., in Hampton Roads, Virginia.

“I come from a long history in the recycling business,” Benedetto says. “I had some ideas for creating a better kind of recycling company.”

The company recycles many different types of materials, from paper to aluminum to scrap metal. For the collection, storage and processing of this material, Benedetto needed a good steel building.

“We started the company and we knew that one of the first orders of business had to be to get a good permanent building for our location,” he says.

That’s where Allied Steel came in.

“I talked to a couple of people who were familiar with Allied Steel as well as other building companies,” Benedetto says. “They knew a lot about the different companies, and they said Allied offers a quality building at a good price.”

He hit the Internet to find the building he was looking for to meet his company’s needs.

“As it turned out, we checked on the Internet and found that price-wise, we had a good building,” he says. “We’ve got a 15,000-square-foot building.”

Benedetto says he closed on the building’s site in November of 2004, but unfortunately the building had arrived on time in October of 2004.

“I wish I would have had them hold the delivery until we had closed on the site,” Benedetto says.

The company has large machines housed inside the building for recycling, and there is a 500 square-foot office area that is two stories tall. Allied Steel provided the plans, and there were no problems with the blueprints or in getting the proper permits, he says.

Construction got underway in January of 2005, after extensive work was done to grade the site and lay the foundation. Benedetto gave rave reviews to the construction crew that Allied had procured for the project.

“Allied recommended we use Eddie Poff – and he was the single biggest positive about the whole project,” he says. “Eddie and his crew helped us in so many ways it is hard to describe.”

Poff’s crew spent about three weeks erecting the building in March of 2005, Benedetto says.

“The fact that Eddie is a big believer in Allied Steel is enough for me,” he says. “I fully believe in his integrity and reputation. He’s been the tops.”

Benedetto says one problem that occurred during construction was that smaller doors than expected were shipped to the site.

“But Allied took care of the problem right away, and I really appreciated the way they handled it,” he says. “They made sure we had the doors that we wanted and sent them immediately.”

Third Capital has three people on staff currently, and they’re looking forward to many future successes in their new building.

“This is what we’ve been needing to get the business going in the direction we want it to in the future,” Benedetto says.
